Tanya: Am I acting as if there's something wrong?

Much better. Now all I need is a good night's sleep and I'll get out of this one horse town. Forty thousand dollars will buy a lot of horses. Or a new life. With Sam. Well, thirty-nine thousand three hundred now. Hmm, now what did I do with the shampoo? I must have left it in my bag.

Was that the door? What wonderful timing. It must be the old innkeeper woman; surely she wouldn't send that odd son of hers. I can ask her to bring me my shampoo. Oh, but she mustn't look on the dresser. She mustn't...

Tanya: It has these curves

He came out of the snow, dressed in coverings that were soft and thin like the clouds atop Seventh Hill. Since he did not have much hair of his own, we wrapped him in furs and brought him to the fire.

He is one of us now; our shaman, and my friend. I believe he is happy with us, as he speaks our language and has begun a family in our clan, but he often speaks of something called violin. I still do not understand this thing, but the sadness on his face, when he speaks of it, is terrible.

Tanya: Self-discovery

David Thompson-Hughes awoke to find himself in a stable. So, it was true. A sickly-looking boy, his own age, was impatiently jabbing a grimy shoe into his ribs.

"We’re already late, Dave. Get up and grab your saddle," the boy ordered, gesturing toward a white horse. David whimpered pitifully as the boy sneered at him.

"I don’t know what you’re whining about," he continued. "At least you and Will got to live with normal names. Not like Pham and me." A thin girl in the corner nodded and rolled her eyes.

"Now get your ass up, and let’s get moving."

Tanya: Overtime

Elaine tapped on the closed door. Everyone else had gone home for the night, and she thought he might finally be available.

Randolph finished his email, then looked up and smiled. "Elaine. My admin told me you wanted to see me. Come in."

She moved toward his desk, removing her cardigan. He turned from the computer as she began unbuttoning her dress; watched it fall to the floor in a silky puddle. She stood that way for a moment, with only black stockings on her lightly-freckled skin, before straddling his lap. Not such a bad place to work, after all.

Tanya: That's What You Get, episode 2

Bastard jumped me in the alley, and managed to cut my shirt and shorts off, but I racked him before he could get any farther. Then I started running. Past China Garden, past Sears. People were staring out of the windows like it was my fault, of course. Like I run through mini-malls in my underwear all the time, just to piss them off.

But the blonde chick coming out of Sportsmart with a new aluminum baseball bat tossed it to me without hesitation. And now that there's rapist-brain all over the store window, this neighborhood might be safe again.

Tanya: Mercy

Fred fancied himself The Great White Hunter, stalking wild prey in Africa. Of course, it was only a tour, for men with more money than brains. The poachers took rich rubes out to kill fancy beasts, so they'd have an exotic head for their wall in Dubuque or Boise or Fargo.

He found the beast he'd been following. But behind the great, maned animal, two tiny cubs rolled together playfully in the scrub grass. Fred's heart got the best of him, and he lowered the pistol.

The lion had no such problem with compassion. His family ate heartily that evening.

Tanya: Outright Terror

They watched from the window during their approach, Phillip with mild trepidation, and Chip bravely, chin up. Thinking of the suitcases stored under the seats made them less nervous.

They came every year, but neither had ever seen such a crowd, especially here at the start. The view wasn't encouraging. The teeming masses didn't look happy, but once they saw the feathers and dancers, Chip knew they'd cheer up. Just like in New York and Chicago.

And if not, well, he was wearing his good running shoes.

Finally the bus arrived. The 2005 Salt Lake City Gay Pride Parade. Showtime.

Tanya: Damage

"It's comin' at us again, captain! Brace for impact!"

The captain grabbed onto his chair, keeping his position as they were mercilessly hit again. "Why isn’t the tractor beam working?! Shuttle to main ship! Increase tractor beam!"

It was no use; they should never have landed on this planet. The natives continued to batter them, as if their destruction was some demented game. Their booster rockets had been destroyed, and the captain thought their radio was out now, too.

They could see it approaching again, and another blast would be the end of them.

"Shuttle to Galaxion! Emergency! Get us..."

Tanya: Advice

Ben stared in wonder at Gary's costume for the toga party, as Henry encouraged him. Henry knew everything there was to know about women. After all, he had been the captain of the football team in their hometown of Preacher's Pass. Now at Ole Miss, the other freshmen still followed his advice to the letter.

"I'm tellin' you man, chicks dig smart, sensitive guys who like kids. Guys that're in touch with their inner child."

"Uh-huh," Ben agreed, fascinated.

Gary took another swig from the bottle of Jack. "Winnie-the-Pooh sheets, check. Pocket protector, check. Smurfs necklace, check. Prepare for poontang."

Tanya: Matthew 7: 1-2

"You're gonna burn in hell, sinner!" the old man hissed, beside her.

She was walking her dog past the little church, having forgotten that service was letting out. A middle-aged woman noticed her and called out, "Jesus is going to punish you, atheist!"

"You're evil and God's gonna make you burn!" They taunted her this way whenever they saw her, but it was worse on Sundays. She told herself that all small towns were this way.

"You should be ashamed! God will see that you're..."

The bolt of lightning, which turned them into a pile of ashes, left her untouched.
