Zimmy doesn't care why they're booing. "That's it. Let's go man, let's go." The devil disappears. Yarrow comes out: "Bobby's going to get his axe." Someone makes a Seeger joke. "Bobby's going to get an acoustic guitar."

"Does anyone have an E harmonica?" He picks one from the footlights. More self-conscious poetry. No stray-cat-whisker strings curling the machinehead. No Woody Guthrie work shirt but everyone is clapping. The first set was too short and he says "It's all over now, baby blue" like someone planting a bomb. In 2007, Dunkin' Donuts sponsors the Newport Folk Festival. The bells of freedom chiming.

Hey man, like, wow. I hear what you're saying man. Or is that just the voices in my head wondering what you are smoking?

Dance, Baby, Dance

“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone…” my 3 year old softly croons. He looks up at me to grin one of his mad baby grins. I marvel that not understanding the words to the song does little to diminish his joy.

I wash dishes, switch the loads of laundry, and do a little dance to the audience of the dryer and a pile of warm, unsorted socks. One arm is stretched above my head, and my hips rock and sway to the rhythm of a pair of sneakers tumbling in the dryer. I stop, peep over my shoulder, and sigh.
