May 8 is a day of milestones. On this day in history, the WWII Allies celebrated Victory in Europe, Mohandas Gandhi began his fast in protest of British oppression, and Richmond, Virginia was named the capital of the Confederate States.
But most importantly, on May 8, 1886, pharmacist John Pemberton sold the first glass of Coca Cola. So write a story with carbonated beverages.

If Hitler had invented Coca-Cola, well, we’d all be speaking German. Let’s just face it, money is power, power in the hands of a dictator…. Plus, Coke isn’t kosher.
If Gandhi had invented the beverage…, hey, stop and think about that for a minute…, huh? Where would Gandhi be today? Someplace pretty nice I’d bet. Back then, Coke had cocaine in it, so…, you do the math.
What if the Confederates had cornered the distribution market for Coke-Cola? I’m glad you asked, because…., if that were true, the slaves would be the slave holders and the rednecks would be beholden.
