The great philosopher Xeno once confessed his love to the beautiful Aphrodite.
She gently rebuked, “Dearest Xeno, your love is mortal –like yourself– and must eventually end. I, however, am eternal. If I desire more?”
A wickedly clever man himself, Xeno argued, “My love for you can never end. As each year passes, if we were to take half my love away, even at the end of eternity some love must always remain!”
Aphrodite, not to be undone, countered: “Foolish Xeno, you me offer such a paltry sum. Halving a love eternal is far less than having a love eternal.”
