Her chart was devoid of smiley faces these days. A bed unmade lay rumpled with twisted sheets in a room littered with crumpled clothing. A pair of dirty underwear stood sentry at the door – a hostile gesture warning others of the household to stay back. A tray of cigarette butts sat out in defiance of house rules, the smell of them still lingered. And still there were rays of hope in the home, an occasional dinner taken with the family, a hint of a smile at someone’s joke or a quick pat on the back of someone proffering a hug.

Missing In Action . . .
We were four hundred when we set out, uniforms crisp, guns shiny. Ready for anything. Now, after heavy action on beaches, in jungles, in snow, there are only five brave men left in our company. Kirkowski, Brown, Jones, Smith, and me.
After a pitched battle against the Axis of Evil, we return to camp victorious. We never rest, we never die, we go to Hell and regroup. Back at bivouac, in the big empty mess hall, I look around . . . where’s Kirkowski?
Lost on the barbeque grill? We hold a moment of silence for our melted comrade, our plastic hearts breaking.

The news hit them all hard... he was MIA in Vietnam.
Sally had been taking care of Snoopy since he left, and broke the news to him. You could tell he wanted to hop on his doghouse and fly over the jungle looking for him. Lucy said many times she should've been nicer to him all those years, and Patty had to admit a certain crush, back in the days before Marcie.
In time, though, he was found, and came home, surprisingly not the worse for wear. There was only one major change.
His name was Charles. Never... EVER... Charlie.
