Raymond looked at his carving and tossed it from one from hand to the other. Woodworking was a hobby that had been in his family for three generations.

"It takes yer mind off work," his father would say.

Now, the damn environmentalists wanted him to stop cutting down trees.

With twenty-three years in the same job, Raymond needed all the distractions he could find. He was far from his youth but still miles away from retirement. He hated his stupid job but was too scared to quit.

Raymond sighed heavily and plunged the American redwood through the monster's rotting chest.
