Good news everyone! As you read this, Jim is working on another “Fred and the Green Headed Duck” story.

I’m excited about this, I’ve been enjoying the character development of the duck. We all know who Fred is, the crazy loon, and why Lisa left him. But who is this duck? Obviously he exists only in Fred’s mind, but what character trait of Fred’s brings this duck around at Fred’s lowest moments?

Can the duck pay a visit while Fred gets GOOD news?
Will Fred and the Duck spend a joyous moment?

Can’t wait to learn the answers?

Stay Tuned!!!!!!!

We were attending a party thrown by some of her friends. The party was average, I suppose. Even the duck bobbing in the punchbowl was just one of those normal brown ducks…

“You’re unusually quiet, Fred,” quacked the green-headed duck, dispersing that memory like so much smoke.

“I was recalling the time Lisa made the big announcement to her friends,” I sighed. “The one about getting a promotion and moving away to another city. I’m certain she knew that I couldn’t go with her.”

“These things happen,” he clicked his beak consolingly.

“She called it ‘good news’. But it wasn’t.”

It came right out of the blue.

Donna had spent all week getting ready for the party, making sure everything was absolutely perfect. Twenty of our best friends showed up, and when everyone was there, she called us all out by the pool.

"I want to make an announcement," she chirped excitedly as she put her arms around me. "I have great news - I'm pregnant. David and I are going to have a baby!"

I really don't remember much after that, except a flurry of hands pulling us out of the pool and trying to pry her from my arms.

Through painful experience I've learned to brace myself whenever the Big Guy begins a staff meeting with, "Good news everyone!"

It usually means bad news wearing lipstick.

"I've been quietly negotiating a deal for a new branch location. Well, that's now a done deal and I'm naming Johnson here as its new manager. Congratulations, Tim!"

New location? Me? Management position? I don't usually go all misty but this one blew me away.

"Uh...well, thank you so much, Bob, I stammered. I am honored beyond words. Where's the new location?"

"Fargo! You're gonna love it!"

Could someone please pass the lipstick?

Thank you, kasac. Your praise made Fred blush.

Perhaps the green-headed duck blushed, too. But there's really no way to tell with all those feathers in the way.

Are you still there?”

Good one, hnumpah! I loved it! It's so hard to achieve an interesting story that goes way beyond 100 words (for me anyway) in just 100 words.
