Reasons Why I Wish I Had Attended Harvard:

1. The life of a porn shop cashier doesn't seem nearly as glamorous as it did when I first applied.

2. I've always wanted a blazer, or at least a reason which would justify owning one.

3. I'm fairly certain the guy in 4E who won't turn down his Bad Company albums at 3 in the morning attended Yale.

4. Chicks dig diplomas.

5. So I could shut up, once and for all, that hotshot brother of mine who successfully completed rehab on his third attempt.

6. The unbearable bliss of ignorance.

Skeleton Jasper

“Your mother may fatten you up with these taters and stewing meats,” said Uncle Fletcher, “but that’ll only make you all the tastier to Skeleton Jasper.”

“You hush,” said Gavin’s mother, “you’ll scare him off dinner.”

“Words to the wise,” said Fletcher.

Gavin noticed that Fletcher didn’t seem to fear seconds, nor thirds for that matter. Since Papa had passed, Fletcher was over for dinner most nights. In fact, Fletcher didn’t leave until morning, when the farm work started.

That night, as the creaking noises came from Mama’s room, Gavin watched the scarecrow from his window. “Skeleton Jasper,” he whispered.
