"Nice Things"

“This is why
I’ll no longer buy
you nice things!”, his mother cried,
while careless Kevin sat and eyed,
broken toys he so “prized”:
gaming systems, TVs, trains,
micromachines, ray guns, planes--
all once in perfect working order,
now lay in wreckage ‘cross floorboards.

Months went by
and Kevin found
the “loss of things”, which once made him frown,
gave him time to look around
and See things- like friends, trees,
puppy dogs, or tire swings,
which need no wires, electricity,
nor a one-year manufacture’s warranty-
in his life, true joy, did bring,
made him possessor of true Nice Things.
