Sorry Grandma

She sat on the sofa in a slouched position, an open bag of potato chips tucked under her left armpit. The television was turned up loud, displaying graphic images of murder scenes and corpses.

I looked at her and shook my head knowing I would spend another Christmas watching her crime shows and eating prepackaged turkey roll on a bun.

I sat down beside her, and felt her weathered lips kiss my cheek and her bony hand on my knee. “Happy Holidays Kevin,” she croaked.

“Same t’you Grandma,” I managed as I scanned the room for signs of her purse.
