Dying from starvation was a slow and painful process and at this point, she was certain her muscles and tissues had began to break down, a lifeline for her vital organs.

The hallucinations offered little distraction. She saw herself standing at the head of an endless food counter, giggling at the hundreds of delicious choices and then gasping when she noticed no plate in her hands.

Her sudden intake of oxygen caused her to jolt into consciousness and she cried out to a figure she noticed in an adjacent room.

"Mom, can you make something to eat?! I'm really hungry!"
