David: The Disrespectful Youth

“Have you tried Hare Krishna?” asked the guy at the bar.

“What?” It was the only response I had.

The guy moved to a closer stool. “Sorry. Muppet Movie reference. You said you were lost. It’s a running gag.”

“The Muppet Movie? The Muppets made a movie? Why would anyone see a movie about the puppets from Sesame Street? That’s kid stuff.”

The guy got defensive. “Not Sesame Street. The Muppets. Kermit, Fozzy, Gonzo.”

“You just made those names up. I say this ‘Muppet Movie’ is a myth.”

“A myth?”

“Yes, a myth. Myth!”

Behind me, a woman said, “Yeth?”

Sealyon: The Flying Dutchman

It’s only a legend, I tell myself, sitting in this strange bulkhead, listening to the engines whine and the whispers…

A legend. Nothing more.

The ship appeared out of nowhere on the vid display, huge and broken. We responded to their distress signal on every known channel, desperate to avoid collision, but couldn’t make contact. She approached in slow motion and then - impact.

When I regained consciousness, I was here. How’s she flying with all this damage? I can’t locate any crew, mine or theirs, but I can hear someone, whispering. What does Kunt u mijn alstublieft helpen mean?

From The Comments: Rick

When you are in battle and get lost, there is one golden rule you should obey...

Stay where you are. Hunker down.

Preferring silver over gold, my record for following protocol was a tarnished one.

I started running but quickly became dizzy and confused. Before me lay endless mazes, snares and booby-traps. I tried to slow my breathing down but my emotions got the better of me and I collapsed to the surface beneath my feet.

Finally, my mummy found me and wiped the tears from my face. The Price War was over and it was time to go home.
