Monday

Today's theme is holiday.

I hadn't figured on the rain tonight, but then I hadn't planned on doing this until the 31st, a week from now. Besides, the rain makes it easier to slip up on her.

I start by checking for a key under the mat. She's way too trusting, so of course there it is. I ease the door open and stepp inside, dripping wet but ready to get on with it.

The ceiling light switched on.

“Hi Mom, they ended my deployment a week early.”

She threw her arms around my neck. “Merry Christmas, son.”

It's good to be home again.
