Friday

This week's Friday theme is to let us know why the weather in these parts has been so strange lately.

The butterfly flapped tiny yellow wings. Around the browning stem of the banana leaf, a single twist of spider silk represented hours of frustrating labour.

The butterfly flapped upwards, pulling the silken string taut, and hovered, patiently, gathering strength.

Two feet above, newborn caterpillars slunk up and down a bare branch of a tree, awaiting their meal.

It was time.

The butterfly flapped, straining, silk grappled with tiny legs, hauling the banana leaf up.

Slowly, slowly, it rose.

Flap . . . just . . . a little bit . . . harder.

Flap . . . just . . . a little bit . . . faster.

A tiny breeze rippled away unnoticed from the butterfly's wings.
