The old man thought.

“Stop thinking old man. Empty your mind. Blank your consciousness.”

The old man, the preeminent thinker of an era long past, thought, ‘how the hell do I do that?’

“We simply must slow your thinking.” The reply folded open in his mind, dripping with power and innuendo. They were listening.

The old man, feeling the drugs hit his vein, gathered his courage to resist one last time; then thought became difficult.

Mental pictures of packrats removing everything important from his head ran through his mind, like cattle stampeding in an old western.

And the harvesting began.
