"Yes, it is a bit of a downer I must say..." replied my gravely ill friend.

"Still you had a good innings it has to be said."

"Well you have done and seen more than 99% of the population in your lifetime. Let's face it, its the bloody slowing down and settling that killed you!"

"Yes the Grim Reaper seems to know where I live now!" He coughed, "he seems rather miffed I dodged him so many times."

"He always gets his man," I snickered.

The old bastard bent over to tie his shoes one last time. He knew his time was up. He knew there was nothing left to say. He had outlived both his sons, something no father ever wants, even this father. It was time to die, time to see what comes next, if anything. All he knew was that it all happened so fast, those 69 years.

This is how I found him, sitting and staring morosely into space. “It’s time, Saddam” I said as he stood and we started down the hall. What else could I say? “Allahu akbar!”, perhaps?
