Stacy: Crazy Love

Her hands shook slightly as she punched in the numbers.

9 for the number of times he cheated on her.

0 for the number of times he apologized.

4 for the number of times she’d been suspended for botched jobs.

1 for the number of times she’d been fired.

0 for the number of times he said “I love you.”

She hit ENABLE and closed the cover of the control box. She threw a dusty tarp over the device and climbed the stairs to the alley.

She checked her watch. Plenty of time to make the 4:05 flight to Bali.

That sequence of numbers is also the zip code for Santa Monica, CA.

If that's no coincidence then I'll really miss the Pier and the Promenade.

Oh well, never did like California. :)

Aw, you'd like the Promenade.

Maybe. Would there be hippie liberals to torment? :)

There are street performers. I'm sure most of them are either hippies or hippie-esque. Alomst everyone else there is a tourist.

There are magicians and contortionists and jugglers and stuff. Dinosaur hedge animals. And neat stores. It's fun.

I'd take on faith that most of the performers are hippies, but I don't remember hearing any of them speak, except to amuse the kids.

Well, if they amuse my kids they get a pass. :)

Most of the real hippies in California live north of here.

Besides, I have a client in Santa Monica. He's a nice guy and a dyed-in-the-wool capitalist. I'd want to give him some warning. 4:05 you say?
