Everyday I look out to these fields. I worked for years to get what I wanted and wasn’t going to stop now. My job was done and my years had shown promise. Acres of blackberries. So big you could taste them with your eyes.

I took advantage of some people to get where I was, but you have to do what you have to do.

I sat back deciding whether to pay my employees more than the dollar I was paying them.

A smell hit my nose.

Fire and gasoline.

I guess they wanted more then a dollar.

Fuck them.

Exploitation:

The most disturbing thing was how little notice they took of us.

The ships landed, one a day. The first few dozen landed in Antarctica, and the pattern extended northward, landing on continents and ocean floors. Each ship extended some kind of drill into the ground, and dug.

Nothing we did even elicited a response. Some hicks tried to shoot up one ship, and still nothing. Some people wanted to bust out the nukes, but calmer minds decided we might not want their attention that badly.

Then five years later, they left. We're still not even sure what they took.

It was another dreary day in the depths of Central Park, one of the last hiding places of mankind. The ruined skyline depressed him, and the patrolling stingships terrified him.

He saw a scrap of yellowing paper come rolling by, and grabbed for it. It was the Times. "Must have been one of the last issues published", he thought. He could barely make out the headlines.

"Invasion!", read one.

"Women and Minorities Hardest Hit!", read another.

If he was careful, this ought to be good for at least two uses, he calculated as he ambled over to the slit trench.
