That particular religious order was clouded in mystery and little was known about their downtown monastery. The monks tended to be quiet, secretive. Maybe even furtive.

There was a cubby set on the south side of those great umber walls, a place where scared mothers occasionally placed newborn infants. Set the baby down and walk away. A monk would issue forth and secure the baby, assumedly taking it to an orphanage.

Until the time old man Hoskins, sloppy drunk from a late night bender, happened to stumble into the cubby and fall asleep. The next day, only his shoes remained.

He felt as if he had been violated. He had worked for there for 23 stinking years! The image of a red door burned in his mind, a red door that went straight to hell. Timothy Freeling wanted to push his boss through that door, his ex-wife, too. He stopped suddenly when he saw it...the red door. There was a note, "Come ye all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

Tim opened it and the man behind the door looked at Tim's feet. "Oh, yeah," said Tim as he took off his shoes and walked in.
