"You ever get tired of it?"

Frank looked down at the flooded city and chewed his cigar, thoughtful. "No," he said. "I've been shot twice. I've gotten stuck on rooftops without drinking water. I've had people steal the kayak, thinking they could escape alone, only to have it turn over on them, and I had to save them. I've dislocated both shoulders, pulling supply rafts at the kayak's back. But if I don't do it, who will? So, fuck being tired."

Frank smiled. He looked pretty tired.
