LJ: Shining Armor

"Yes, please. Let's pretend."

She clapped her hands. "Okay, Daddy, you be the knight, and I'll be your princess daughter."

I chose not to point out the slight difficulties there. This was, after all, pretend. "Are there dragons out there?"

She looked a little frightened. "I don't know. Are there?"

Of course there were. There were always dragons. Terrible creatures who wanted to snatch up my princess and devour her. But that's what knightly fathers were meant for, wasn't it?

I grabbed her and hugged her tight. "Don't worry, sweetie. No dragons will ever get you. Not with me around."
